Why you should set up guest Wi-Fi

Updated September 27, 2026 · 1 min read

Why it's worth it

  • Visitors get internet without seeing your computers, printers or shared files.
  • You can hand out the guest password freely and change it any time without reconnecting your own devices.
  • It's a good home for smart plugs, cameras and gadgets, which often have weak security.

How to turn it on

Open your router's app or settings page and look for Guest network or Guest Wi-Fi. Give it a name and password and save. Some routers can switch it off automatically after a set time.

For businesses

Customer Wi-Fi should always be separate from the network your business computers, card machine and cameras use.

Share it easily

Many router apps can show a QR code for the guest network. Print it for the fridge or the front counter.
