Phone won't charge? Easy fixes

Updated September 27, 2026 · 1 min read

Rule things out

  1. A different cable. Cables fail more than anything else.
  2. A different charger and outlet.
  3. A wireless charger, if the phone supports it. If that works, the port or cable is the problem.
  4. Restart the phone. A software glitch can stop charging.

Clean the port

Shine a flashlight inside. Pocket lint gets packed in and stops the cable from seating fully.

  • Turn the phone off.
  • Gently scrape it out with a wooden toothpick. Never use metal, and don't blow into it.
  • The cable should click in firmly afterwards.

"Liquid detected" warning

Unplug it and let the phone dry for a few hours somewhere with airflow. Skip the bag of rice, as it doesn't help and leaves dust behind.

Still not charging?

The charging port or battery may need replacing. It's a common, affordable repair.
