Netflix or YouTube keeps buffering? Try this

Updated September 27, 2026 · 1 min read

Quick fixes

  1. Restart the TV or streaming device. Unplug it for 30 seconds, because many TVs never fully turn off.
  2. Restart your modem and router.
  3. Update the app and the TV's software.
  4. Try another app. If only one app buffers, the problem is probably that service, not your internet.

Check the Wi-Fi at the TV

TVs are often far from the router and behind furniture. Most TVs show signal strength in their network settings. If it's weak, try:

  • A network cable from the router to the TV (the best fix)
  • A mesh Wi-Fi unit near the TV
  • Moving the router somewhere more central

Only in the evenings?

Lots of people are online in your area. Plugging in with a cable helps; if it's really bad, talk to your provider.

Old streaming stick?

Older sticks and smart TVs struggle with modern apps. A new streaming device is often a cheap fix.
