Why your business emails land in spam
SPF, DKIM and DMARC sound like jargon, but they decide whether your invoices reach your customers. Here is what they do.
If customers say your emails end up in their junk folder, the cause is usually three missing DNS settings on your domain.
What they do
- SPF lists which servers are allowed to send email for your domain.
- DKIM adds a digital signature to your emails so receivers can tell they weren't tampered with.
- DMARC tells Gmail and Outlook what to do with email that fails those checks, and sends you reports.
Since 2024, Gmail and Yahoo expect businesses to have all three. Without them, your mail is far more likely to be junked or rejected.
How to check
Send an email to a Gmail address, open it, click ⋮ → Show original, and look for SPF: PASS, DKIM: PASS and DMARC: PASS.
The easy way
Every domain on BDT Hosting is set up with SPF, DKIM and DMARC from day one. If your email is hosted somewhere else, I can fix the records for you.
